Senator Richard Saslaw swears it wasn't him that bought pot with a credit card. The majority leader of the Virginia state Senate found out someone stole his identity, and used his American Express to buy $225 worth of medical marijuana in California. "I'm 70 years old," Sen. Richard Saslaw said in a telephone from Virginia with ABC News 10. "I'm past the generation that used to do that."

The California Highway Patrol worked with the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force to solve the crime. Officials say several fraudulent purchases were made. Saslaw says his first indication that something was wrong was when his credit card was declined when he tried to make some purchases back in March. He alerted Virginia State Police.

Saslaw wasn't the only Virginia lawmaker to be a victim. Two other people on the Virginia legislature had their credit cards stolen. And they believe it happened at a restaurant. Officials say they have two suspects-- 24-year-old Bernell Bryan Washington and 21-year-old Sky Manriquez. Officials say the pair changed Saslaw's home address from his residence in Virginia to an apartment on Fulton Avenue in Sacramento, California. Not only did they buy pot with the lawmaker's American Express, but officials say they also bought smoking paraphernalia. "That's California for you," Saslaw said to the Washington Post. "You can buy pot on a credit card." According to CBS13, authorities uncovered lots of evidence including receipts for medical marijuana using the stolen accounts. Warrants have been issued. Authorities say Washington has a $60,000 arrest warrant and Manriquez a $25,000 warrant for identity theft.

Saslaw praised law enforcement saying they were quick and efficient. He says his credit card has been stolen before. Years ago he said someone used his card to buy pornography, but officers were able to make an arrest because the crook had the porn sent to his home address.
